The 2005 UMT season features productions of "Annie," "Side by Side by Sondheim," and the premiere of "Wicked City Blues." In preparation for these shows, UMT has announced a schedule for auditions and is currently accepting submissions for the following positions: choreographers, designers (scenic, lighting, costume, sound), costume shop manager, stage manager (AEA), 1st hand/cutter, charge painter, and carpenters. Additional production hiring will be announced.
The first set of local auditions will be held Nov. 12-13 in the Allred Theater of the Val A. Browning Center for the Performing Arts on the Weber State University Ogden campus. On Nov. 12, acting and singing auditions will be held from 6-10 p.m. for adults (AEA and non-union). On Nov. 13, acting and singing auditions will be held for children between 9 a.m. and noon. A dance callback audition for children will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Additional acting and singing auditions for adults (AEA and non-union) will be held from 6-10 p.m.
Those interested in auditioning should call the UMT offices (801-626-7775) after Nov. 8 to sign up for a 5-minute slot. The first hour of each adult session is reserved for AEA (unreserved slots will be released at the time of auditions). Callbacks for the children's afternoon dance audition will be posted outside the UMT office after 12 noon, on the 13th. The dance combination will be taught promptly at 1 p.m.
Adults should prepare the following: one or two comic monologues and two songs (32 bars each of one ballad and one character). Those who wish to be considered for "Side by Side," must prepare at least one Sondheim song.
Kids should prepare the following for their audition: One nursery rhyme (memorized please) and two songs (32 bars each of one ballad and one character). Kids should also come prepared to dance if called back.
UMT hires both union/guild members and non-union performers/artisans/technicians. Contracting for AEA will be on an SPT (cat 5-6, 6-8 weeks) agreement. Contracting for SSD&C and USA will be on special agreement. Non-union performer contracting will be as a principal, featured or ensemble/apprentice. All positions carry either a salary or nominal stipend. Juvenile performers are not financially compensated, but will be offered other consideration. Animal performer contracting will be negotiated.
