OGDEN, Utah - Rita Moreno, the only female performer ever to win the four major entertainment awards (the Oscar, the Tony, the Grammy, and the Emmy), will speak at Weber State University on Thursday (Oct. 3) at 10 a.m. in the Shepherd Union Ballroom, sharing her experiences from a career that has spanned seven decades.
Born Rosa Dolores Alverio in Humacao, Puerto Rico, Moreno will relate what it was like for a young Latina woman to break into the American entertainment industry at a time when diversity wasn’t celebrated and her ethnicity often relegated her to lesser films and stereotypical roles.
Moreno’s visit coincides with Latino, Chicano, Hispanic Emphasis Week at WSU. Her presentation, part of WSU’s Convocations series, is free to the public.
