Descendants of Thomas Jefferson to Present "Affairs of Race in America"

Julia Jefferson and Shay Banks-Young can trace their ancestry back to President Thomas Jefferson and his slave Sally Hemings. The distant cousins will present "The Affairs of Race In America, A Conversation In Black And White" when they visit Weber State University at noon, Sept. 29 in the Shepherd Union Wildcat Theater.

Genetic testing strongly suggests Jefferson and Hemings had children together. In this unique, interactive presentation, audience members will have the opportunity to engage in a conversation with Jefferson and Banks-Young as they discuss the many differences and similarities they share.

The event is free to the public.
