'Remember the Titans' Coach to Speak at WSU

Sept. 15, 2006

Herman Boone, the head football coach at Virginia's T.C. Williams High School in 1971, will speak at Weber State University on Sept. 20 at noon in the Shepherd Union Gallery. Boone's team was the subject of the 2000 film "Remember the Titans," with Denzel Washington playing Boone.

In 1971, Boone, an African-American coach of a school in a district that had integrated its school system for the first time that year, led the Titans to an undefeated record, a state championship and a No. 2 ranking nationally.

In his presentation, which is free and open to the public, Boone will discuss what it was like to coach the Titans at that time.
