Hall Elected Board of Trustees Chair for Second TermSeptember 3, 2013
OGDEN, Utah – Alan Hall has been re-elected chair of the Weber State University Board of Trustees at its monthly meeting Sept. 3. Trustee Kevin Sullivan was elected vice chair.
“This is wonderful job, and I cherish the opportunity to continue to work with this great institution and the trustees,” Hall said.
Hall, chairman of MarketStar and founder of Grow Utah Ventures, has served as chair of the trustees since 2010, when he succeeded former trustee Jerry Stevenson. His assignments on the board have included being a member of the business, honorary degree, and community partnerships and economic development committees since joining the board in 2007. Hall was elected vice chair in August 2009. Last month Hall was named chairman of Prosperity 2020, a business-led movement to promote innovation, investment and accountability in Utah public education.
Sullivan, a retired Air Force major general, has been a member of the board since 2010. As a trustee, Sullivan has served on the personnel and academic policy, audit, and community partnerships and economic development committees. Sullivan is a member of the executive committee for the Utah Defense Alliance.
The election of Hall and Sullivan was the first order of business for the board, which features six new members, including Andre Lortz, the 2013-15 president of the WSU Alumni Association, and David Wilson, 2013-14 student body president.
Lortz, chief financial officer for FJ Management Inc., earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting from Weber State in the 1990s. Wilson is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in international economics and plans to graduate in 2015. Lortz will serve a two-year term on the board; Wilson will serve for one year.
Bonnie J. Clark, Karen Fairbanks, Nolan Karras and Jeff Stephens are the other new members of the board, having been appointed to four-year terms by Utah Gov. Gary Herbert earlier this year.
Scott Parson and Steve E. Starks round out the 10-member board.
