Brewer succeeds R. Scott Marquardt whose term as a WSU trustee ended earlier this year. A member of the board since 1997, Brewer was appointed to a second four-year term in 2001. She had served as vice chair since 1999.
James, a Weber State alumnus, is founder and president of James & Co., Business Advisors and CPAs. He joined the board in 1997 and was re-appointed for a second term in 2001.
Today’s election was the first order of business for the board, which features four new members. The new trustees include Barney Chapman of America First Credit Union, Julie Kenley of Ed Kenley Ford in Layton, and Kathy Petersen of Overland West Inc., along with Chris Malan, the 2003-04 president of the WSU Alumni Association.
Chapman, Kenley, and Petersen were named to four-year terms by Governor Michael Leavitt earlier this year. Their appointments were confirmed by a special session of the legislature in July.
Malan, Vice President and General Counsel of Flying J Oil & Gas Co., is an alumnus of WSU. He will serve a one-year term on the board as part of his duties as president of the alumni association.
The governor also re-appointed trustees Mac Christensen and Thomas Davidson to second terms. Catherine Ortega, Superintendent of Ogden School District, and Kyle Poll, WSU student body president, round out the 10-member board of trustees.
