August 2, 2011

WHAT: Multi-agency training exercise to test emergency response to a simulated hazardous material/chemical spill

WHO: Weber State University police and personnel, Northern Region Response Team, Ogden City Fire Department, Weber County Haz Mat Task Force, Weber CSI, Weber-Morgan Homicide Task Force

WHEN: August 11, 2011 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

WHERE: University Village (approx. 1275 E. 4600 S., Ogden) and surrounding area

BACKGROUND: In an effort to test emergency response protocols and interagency collaboration, the Weber State University Police Department, Ogden City Fire Department and other local and state agencies will simulate a chemical spill in WSU’s student housing (University Village) that will involve a hazardous materials response.

The exercise is part of an ongoing series of training sessions WSU and local law enforcement agencies conduct to test and improve emergency response procedures. The exercise will include emergency personnel and vehicles, first responders from multiple jurisdictions and a simulated decontamination process.

To alleviate any unnecessary alarm, local residents, campus neighbors and area businesses are advised that this is only a training exercise.
