WSU Women’s Center Celebrates LUNAFEST

OGDEN, Utah — LUNAFEST, a traveling film festival of short films made for, about and by women, will make a stop at Weber State University on March 3 at the Shepherd Union Wildcat Theater at 7 p.m.

The festival includes nine films by directors from Jordan, Belgium and Scotland including new and upcoming filmmakers such as 18-year-old Khaldiya Jibawi. Jibawi directed and filmed “Another Kind of Girl,” documenting the everyday lives of girls in Jordan's Za’atari Refugee Camp.

The total time to see all the films is just under 90 minutes. Tickets are free for WSU students and $15 for community members.

Fifteen percent of proceeds from the film festival will be donated to the Breast Cancer Fund.  The remainder will go to the Safe@Weber Survivor Fund, which offers emergency funding to help survivors deal with unexpected costs related to sexual assault, domestic violence and stalking.

“We were inspired to host the film festival as a way to showcase women in film and to help us raise money for Safe@Weber,” said Paige Davies, Women’s Center survivor advocate. “The films help us to share the wide variety of women's experiences and create space where we can empower each other.”
