OGDEN, Utah – On Feb. 25, Weber State University's College of Applied Science & Technology (COAST) will join the Davis Applied Technology College and Ogden-Weber Applied Technology College in hosting an event designed to encourage women to pursue trade and technical careers.
"Explore the Possibilities: Women in Trades & Technology" will be held in the Lind Lecture Hall on WSU's Ogden campus from 5-8:30 p.m. The evening's activities include make-and-take projects, a job fair and workshops focusing on careers in automotive, carpentry, electronics, engineering, plumbing and others.
At 5:30 p.m., Stacee Pedersen, human resource manager at the local manufacturing company GSC Foundries, will offer the keynote address, speaking to participants about the need for qualified employees in trade and technical fields. Also, WSU's Department of Computer Electronics Engineering Technology will award six scholarships to participants interested in its programs.
The event is free and open to all female secondary students and their parents, as well as all postsecondary women. Space is limited, however, to the first 150 students to register. To pre-register and enter for a chance to win an MP3 player, call Rainie Ingram, COAST recruiter, at 801-626-7785.
