Theatre Arts Professor Wins Excellence Award
James Christian, a Department of Performing Arts professor, has been awarded the 2004 Theatre Teacher of Excellence Award from Region 8 of the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF). Christian is the first Weber State Uuniversity professor to win this honor, which is awarded to faculty members who go "beyond the call of duty" in devoting their time, talent and energy on behalf of students and in support of other faculty and staff. KCACTF Region 8 includes universities from Utah, Arizona, California and Nevada.

Student Reaches Finals of National Competition
Jason Carlton, a senior communication major with an emphasis in public relations, has been selected as one of five finalists in the "PR Week" PR Student of the Year national competition. He received a trip to New York in January for the second round of competition and will return in March for the awards ceremony, where the winner will be announced.
Carlton, who is activity coordinator for the WSU chapter of the Pubic Relations Student Society of America, entered the "Got Milk"-themed competition with a campaign for the latest Harry Potter book and film releases. He lives in Ogden with his wife and infant son.

Communication Professor Honored as Master Teacher
Randy Scott, professor and chair of the Communication Department at WSU, has been awarded the Master Teacher Award from the Communication and Instruction Interest Group of the Western States Communication Association. Each year the group recognizes excellent teachers from around the region. Scott was chosen from a pool of nominations representing teachers from all levels of the educational system and from various communication disciplines. Scott will accept the award at the 2004 WSCA convention in Albuquerque, New Mexico next week. He will also share his teaching philosophy and style with his peers during a presentation at the convention.
