OGDEN, Utah –Weber State University’s campus radio station KWCR-88.1 FM has recently changed its format and name in hopes of attracting more listeners.
The station, now called Weber FM, began playing more mainstream, top-40 rock music on Jan. 3. The switch was intended to better connect with WSU students.
“While our previous formats had a following, we found they didn’t attract the WSU audiences we were hoping for,” said Mark Howard, general manager for KWCR. “We were also looking for a simple name that people would immediately associate with the university.”
Howard said that while the station continues to work through some minor issues related to the format change, overall the transition has gone smoothly.
The new format will not affect KWCR’s coverage of WSU football and women’s basketball games, or its popular Spanish programming on Sunday.
