Issues Forum to Examine Changing Face of Europe

OGDEN, Utah – For those who grew up during the Cold War, it’s hard to imagine that 2009 marks the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Much has changed on the European continent since Germany was reunified two decades ago.
Weber State University’s Honors Issues Forum will explore “The Changing Face of Europe” on Jan. 28 at noon in the Shepherd Union Wildcat Theater.

The forum will feature a panel discussion with WSU faculty members who will address some of the changes they have witnessed in their home countries during the past 20 years, including the rise of the European Union, Russia’s influence in the post-Soviet era, and new challenges and issues facing these Old World nations.

Professors scheduled to participate in the panel include (native country/academic discipline): Dan Bedford (Great Britain/geography), Erika Daines (Germany/foreign language), Doris Geide-Stevenson (Germany/economics), Marek Matyjasik (Poland, geosciences), Nicole Okazaki (France/zoology) and Marjukka Ollilainen (Finland/sociology).

The event is free to the public.
