WSU Hosts Utah Special Olympics Winter Games

OGDEN, Utah – Weber State University will host the 2004 Utah Special Olympics Winter Games Jan. 30-31.

The event will kick off with opening ceremonies at 7 p.m. Jan. 30 in WSU’s Shepherd Union Ballroom. Festivities will include music and appearances by the Jazz Bear, the Jazz Dancers and Miss Utah.

As many as 200 athletes are expected to compete at various skill levels in a wide array of winter sports, including alpine and cross country skiing, snowboarding, and speed and figure skating. Competitions will be held at Powder Mountain Ski Resort, North Fork Park in Liberty and The Ice Sheet in Ogden (4390 Harrison Blvd.).

The public is invited to cheer the competitors on during the ice skating events from 3-10 p.m. Jan. 31 at the Ice Sheet. All spectators signed in by 8:30 p.m. at the skating venue are invited to attend a concert and free skate that will be held from 9:30 p.m.-midnight. All events are free to the public.
