Lecture to Focus on "Unrepentant Curmudgeon"

January 15, 2003

OGDEN, Utah -- The life and writings of Bernard DeVoto, historian, novelist and unrepentant curmudgeon, will be discussed by Russell Burrows, assistant professor of English at Weber State University, Wednesday, January 22, at 1 p.m., in the Stewart Library Special Collections.

DeVoto, who was born in Ogden in 1897, penned a long-lived column called “The Easy Chair” in Harper’s magazine throughout the mid-twentieth century, and often expressed a love-hate relationship with his hometown.

Burrows authored a study of DeVoto, which was published as part of the Western Writers Series by Boise State University Press.
