The Weber State University Upward Bound program has four staff persons working year-round to assist participating students. The Director, Basic Skills Specialist and Math-Science Specialist rotate through the five target high schools meeting with students on an individual and small group basis.
Other college students and staff volunteer and work throughout the school year at the Saturday College Prep/Study Halls on campus assiting with academic tutoring and group activities.
During the six-week Summer Residential Program, approximately twenty additional persons are employed to work with the Upward Program and its students.
A Residential Supervisor, three male Residential Counselors and three female Residential Counselors accompany the students on the one-week academic field trip. In addition, they live on campus with the Upward Bound students, conducting evening activities that include community service, physical education, individual and group discussions.
In the remaining five weeks of the academic summer program, day staff work with the Upward Bound students in individually developed, designed and implented morning "classes" focusing on subjects such as: English, math, science, foreign language and technolgoy. After lunch, students and staff conduct and participate in focused group sessions such as team building, art, study skills and a history simulation.
