| The Math/Science/Technology Specialist is responsible for enhancing knowledge, skills and understanding relating to Mathematics, Sciences and technology for all 9th through 12th grade students participating in the Upward Bound program. This is achieved in a variety of aspects including small group classes for 9th and 10th grade students focusing on fundamental math skills necessary to pass state mandated tests and an ACT college preparation course for 11th grade students enabling them to better understand the concepts tested during the science and math portions of the examination. I
n addition, the specialist also arranges large and small group academic field trips to various establishments featuring math, science and/or technology attractions. Individual tutoring in all Math levels and most fundamental sciences for Upward Bound students is available during the student’s lunch hour, after school and Saturday study halls or as arranged between the specialist and the student.
The specialist is involved with the hiring, training and advising of volunteers and paid staff who work with Upward Bound students during the school year and the six week academic summer camp. Math, science and technology curriculum and lesson plans are reviewed, analyzed and evaluated between the specialist and individual staff members for all small group classes taught at after school and Saturday study halls along with the morning classes during the academic summer camp. |
