   Automotive Service Excellence Test

The ASE certification tests are written to measure technician's knowledge of diagnostic and repair skills necessary for competent job performance. Because questions are job-related, experienced and competent technicians who work daily on the vehicle systems covered generally receive passing scores. Test questions are written by a panel of technical service experts from vehicle manufacturers, repair and test equipment and parts manufacturers, plus working technicians and educators.

The tests offered are listed in the ASE Registration Booklet under the following categories: Automobile, Medium/Heavy Truck, Collision Repair and Refinish, Engine Machinist, Light Vehicle Compressed Natural Gas, Advanced Engine Performance Specialists, and Re-certification. The test dates are as follows:

Test Dates

Nov. 13, 2008

Nov. 18, 2008
Nov. 20, 2008
May 07, 2009
May 12, 2009
May 14, 2009

You can save time and money by registering for more than one test because the registration fee is the same no matter how many tests you take, even if you take a combination of regular, advanced, and re-certification tests. Take up to four regular/advanced tests on any one test day or as many re-certification tests as you would like.

Score reports will be mailed to you about eight weeks after the test date. It will describe your areas of strengths and weaknesses. If you fail a test, you may retake it during any future test period by re-registering and paying the appropriate fees.

Registration Booklets are available at the Automotive Service Technology office in the Technical Education Building, room 203C. Phone (801)626-6579.
