Workshops

Students in the ETS program are invited to participate in 4-6 workshops during the school year.Workshop topics are tailored to the needs of students in each grade level. Additionally, students are encouraged to meet with their Advisor individually throughout the year for academic advisement.

7th and 8th Grade Workshop Topics and Services Include:

  • Goal setting
  • Career exploration
  • Study skills
  • Referrals to tutoring support as needed
  • Grade monitoring and support
  • Introduction to options for funding a college education (financial aid and scholarships)

9th Grade Workshop Topics and Services Include:

  • High school preparation and survival skills (managing the transition)
  • Study skills and test taking strategies
  • Referrals to tutoring support as needed
  • Grade monitoring and support
  • Information on financial aid and scholarships
  • Introduction to college lingo (What’s a “major?”)

10th Grade Workshop Topics and Services Include:

  • Connecting career exploration to college majors
  • Research colleges that offer desired majors
  • Referrals to tutoring support as needed
  • Grade monitoring and support
  • Information on financial aid and scholarships
  • Team building and leadership strategies

11th Grade Workshop Topics and Services Include:

  • ACT test preparation and registration
  • Continue to research colleges that offer desired majors
  • Referrals to tutoring support as needed
  • Grade monitoring and support
  • Information on financial aid and scholarships – begin searching for scholarships
  • Time management/Stress management

12th Grade Workshop Topics and Services Include:

  • ACT test preparation and registration
  • Assistance in submitting college admissions applications
  • Assistance in understanding and filing for financial aid through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Connections to scholarship opportunities and assistance in applying for scholarships
  • Referrals to tutoring support as needed
  • Grade monitoring and support
  • Time and stress management
  • Transitioning into college – referrals to support programs such as SmartStart, Student Support Services, Multicultural Student Center, etc.
