What are the employment opportunities?
Your work in the telecommunications industry may include working with a voice network, a data network or a combined network. Your work may use what you have learned about local area networks (LAN), fiberoptics, cellular phones, modems, telemarketing operations, microwave and satellite communications, online databases, telephone systems, voice technology and telecommunications circuitry.
Starting Salaries
Starting salaries vary depending on the region, workplace and skill level. Telecommunication graduates have starting salaries of $38,000-$45,000. For more information, go to Career Services.

What will I learn in the program?
You will learn to maintain voice and data telecommunication systems. For voice systems, you will design, install and manage phone systems, and practice programming switches for telephone applications in a lab situation. For data systems, you will learn Linux, Microsoft and Novell operating systems, and you will master computer application programs: Windows, word processing, spreadsheets, database, web design, graphics and the Internet. You will install software and configure data systems to operate efficiently. Completing an internship in a private sector telecommunications department will enhance your skills in this area.
You will complete courses that lead to certifications essential to the telecommunications industry, including Cisco CCNA and Linux.
