Summerbridge is made up of two programs, Connecting to College and SmartStart.
Both programs help students prepare for success in college by teaching them how to find scholarships and financial aid, how to register for classes, and how to study effectively. Summerbridge also provides students with a great opportunity to meet people and make friends.
Participation in Summerbridge is free for eligible students who are registered for Fall 2012 courses at Weber State University.
Students in the Connecting to College program will have the opportunity to attend 5 events between June and December. The program focuses on learning about college life, interacting with professors, , finding financial aid, and developing study skills.
Eligible participants meet one or more of the following criteria:
- First Generation to Attend College
- Pell-Eligible or Free/Reduced Lunch Waiver during High School
- Developmental Math and/or English (Math 0950/0990, and/or English 0900/ 0955)
- Registered with Services for Students with Disabilities
In addition to the services offered to Connecting to College participants, SmartStart students are part of a learning community. SmartStart participants start Fall classes in July and work on projects and coursework that count toward the Fall semester. This allows an extra month of instruction prior to the start of the semester. SmartStart gives students an early start, brings them into the learning community, and teaches skills relevant to college culture.
To be eligible, students must test into either Math 0950 or English 0955, but preference is given to students who test into both classes. In addition, students must meet one of the following criteria:
- First Generation to Attend College
- Pell-Eligible
- Registered with Services for Students with Disabilities at Weber State University
