Vice President for Student Affairs

Dr. Jan Winniford has served as the Vice President for Student Affairs at Weber State University since February 2006. She came to Weber State from Texas A&M University where she held a number of professional positions over a 26 year period, most recently as Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and as an adjunct faculty member in the Student Affairs Administration in Higher Education Master’s program.

Dr. Winniford completed her Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration at Texas A&M University in 1991, her Master’s degree in Student Affairs Administration and Counseling Psychology from The Ohio State University in 1979, and her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from The University of Texas at Austin in 1976.

Dr. Winniford is very active in professional leadership roles, particularly NASPA (the National Association of Student Affairs Administrators). Some of these leadership roles include serving as Conference Chair for the 2009 NASPA national conference in Seattle, Vice President of NASPA Region III, member of the NASPA Board of Directors, Program Chair for the 2000 NASPA national conference, Director of the NASPA Symposium for Women Aspiring to be Senior Student Affairs Officers, Director of Member Services, and as a faculty member for NASPA’s Mid-level Professionals Institutes. She received the NASPA Region III Distinguished Service Award in June 2005.

In recognition for her dedication and commitment to students, Dr. Winniford received Texas A&M University’s Distinguished Achievement Award for Student Relations in May 2000. She is also committed to community involvement, serving in roles such as the United Way Board of Directors.

Her personal hobbies and interests include outdoor activities such as running, hiking, biking, skiing, backpacking, and whitewater rafting.
