What can I do with a degree in gerontology?
With a degree in gerontology, you will be prepared to work in the public or private sector as a recreational therapist, hospice staff member, gerontology counselor, senior center director, area agency director, nursing home director, county housing director, nutrition site manager, senior program planner, admissions director or discharge planner.
What will I learn?
You will learn about the dimensions of aging: physical, psychological, social-psychological, biological and social. As you study the politics of aging, you will learn how to lobby, fund and implement human services to the elderly. You also will study methods of providing services to the nation’s older people and learn about the effects of aging on the economy.
Why study gerontology?
As a gerontology student, you will have opportunities to work with agencies and organizations that provide direct services to older persons and their families.
WSU’s gerontology faculty members are committed to providing a quality educational experience for their students and are recognized nationally for their research and commitment to the aging.
Ninety-eight percent of WSU’s gerontology graduates are either employed in the field or pursuing an advanced degree.
WSU has an active student organization that provides more than 1,000 service hours annually to aid the elderly in the local community.
