Non-Resident & International Student Scholarships

Non-Resident Students:

There are scholarships available for non-resident students of Utah.  To view the requirements and information for these scholarships, please click the appropriate student information:

Most of the categories listed are open to students who are not Utah residents
though there are fewer awards available.  

Tuition waivers are only equivalent to the in-state portion of tuition.  Students must pay the difference between the resident and the nonresident tuition, plus all student fees.

Western Undergraduate Exchange Program (WUE):

Students from the following states may apply for this program:  Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.  This scholarship results in a reduced tuition level, and the student will pay 150% of the institution’s regular resident tuition. 

To be eligible for this scholarship, please complete the following:

  • Complete the application for admission to WSU.
  • Apply for the Scholarship via your eWeber portal Scholarship Application with 'YES' selected on the 'Nonresidential WUE' option.
  • Send your official transcripts (high school and any college/university work) to Admissions by Jan 11, 2010 for the 2010-11 school year.  (NOTE: An official transcript is one stamped and placed in a sealed envelope by the issuing party.  If this envelope is opened, this transcript cannot be accepted.)
  • Pay the $30.00 nonrefundable processing fee, made payable to Weber State University.
  • Must maintain full-time status and a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher depending on the type of scholarship.  
  • Must re-apply annually (Note: The deadline is the second Monday in January).

Terms of the WUE

  • Certain majors and minors are restricted. At present, majors and minors in Dental Hygiene, Nursing or Teacher Education are NOT eligible for WUE status.
  • Students enrolled in Distance Learning, contract courses and most independent study or Study Abroad programs are not eligible.
  • Students must apply by submitting an electronic WSU Scholarship Application by the priority deadline which is the 2nd Monday in January. Please provide a list of all colleges attended including dates in the Scholarship application under the last question: "List any awards or specific training".  Applicant must have completed the admissions process, including the submission of the transcripts and ACT scores. Admission to the University does constitute acceptance into the WUE program.
  • WUE participants must register for and complete a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester, must maintain a 2.0 cumulative grade point average and must remain in the academic major under which admitted. WUE recipients who 'stop-out' for a semester without permission of the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office must reapply and meet selection criteria for any available WUE awards the following academic year.
  • Deferring use of a WUE scholarship for an extended leave of absence is not allowed.
  • WUE status must be renewed annually by the Weber State University Financial Aid and Scholarship Office. Renewal of your electronic WSU Scholarship Application and checking the 'Renewal of WUE' by the scholarship deadline will continue your eligibility.
  • Time spent in the WUE program may not subsequently be counted toward the student's residency requirement.
  • The program is not available for students who are already attending Weber State University. Exceptions may be made where space is available in the program by Weber State University Financial Aid and Scholarship Office and, where applicable, the State certifying Office, and by meeting application and selection criteria for the available WUE awards.
  • Selection for participation in the program is on a space available basis, only a finite number of such waivers are available within an academic year.
  • Students from any participating state are given WUE tuition status only in degree programs at the levels in which his/her home state offers programs to WUE students from other states. Please check with the State Certifying Office in your state before applying. 100 Mile Nonresident Partial Tuition Reduction

Nonresident students living within 100 highway miles of Weber State University are eligible to apply for the '100 Mile Nonresident Tuition Reduction.' This scholarship will pay one-half of the difference between resident and nonresident tuition charges.

  • Apply for this scholarship via the eWeber portal and check YES for the 'Nonresident 100 Mile Scholarship'.
  • The amount of the scholarship will be one-half of the difference between the resident and nonresident tuition charges. This means that the scholarship recipient must pay resident tuition plus one-half of the differentials.
  • The Nonresident Partial Tuition Scholarship may be awarded initially only to a nonresident undergraduate student who has not previously been enrolled in a college or university in Utah.  You must provide a list of all colleges attended, including dates of attendance, in the Scholarship application under the last question: "List any awards or specific training..."
  • Scholarship recipients must be enrolled full-time.
  • Scholarship recipient's legal domicile must be within approximately 100 highway miles of Weber State University.
  • Eligibility for Nonresident Partial Tuition Scholarship shall be determined on the basis of program availability at Weber State University and on a competitive basis, using grade point averages and/or results of test scores.
  • Students may retain the Nonresident Partial Tuition Scholarship for a maximum of 8 semesters, provided that they remain in good academic standing (minimum 2.0 cumulative grade point average), and that they notify the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office at Weber State University with the intention of continuing enrollment by renewing their annual WSU scholarship application via your eWeber portal by checking 'YES' on the 'Nonresidential 100 Mile Scholarship' option.

International Students:
