New Freshmen Scholarships

Students who have 0-11 semester credits at any university or college are considered New Freshmen.  Please note, if you will be graduating from high school this year and have 12 or more credits (perhaps through Early College or concurrent enrollment) you may apply as a New Freshmen or a Continuing Student. 

To be eligible for scholarships, please do the following:

  • Complete the application for admissions to WSU.
  • Send your official transcripts (high school and any college/university work) to Admissions before Jan 11, 2010 for 2010-2011.  (An official transcript is one stamped and placed in a sealed envelope by the issuing party.  If this envelope is opened, this transcript cannot be accepted.)
  • Pay the $30.00 nonrefundable processing fee, made payable to Weber State University.
  • Upon acceptance to WSU, apply annually for other scholarship opportunities by completing the WSU scholarship application via your eWeber portal, Student Service tab.

Available Scholarships

Alumni Legacy Nonresident Scholarship:  

In order to qualify for the Alumni Legacy Nonresident Scholarship, your Wildcat must:  

  • Be admitted to Weber State University
  • Have at least one parent who has earned a certificate, associates or higher degree from Weber State University (verification is required).
  • Enroll at Weber State University as a first time student to the Utah System of Higher Education.

Academic:
The academic scholarships are based on the high school cumulative grade point average and the composite ACT/SAT score (this creates an index score).  The minimum index scores will vary, depending on the number of applicants and the average index scores of the applicants. 

Presidential Scholarship: 

  • Awarded to new freshmen for four years of study at WSU
  • Four-year (8 semester) waiver of in-state tuition and fees
  • Estimated index score of 128 or higher (see index chart)
  • Must maintain full-time status and a 3.75 cumulative GPA

High Honors/Honors Scholarship:

  • Awarded to new freshmen for first year of study at WSU
  • One-year (2 semester) waiver of partial in-state tuition
  • Scholarship index score determined yearly
  • Must maintain full-time status and a 3.5 cumulative GPA

Wildcat Leadership Scholarship:

  • Awarded to new freshmen students for their first year at WSU
  • Based on leadership experiences and community involvement
  • One-year (2 semester) waiver of partial in-state tuition
  • Must maintain full-time status, a 2.5 cumulative GPA and be active in Student Government/Activities

Wildcat Activity Scholarships:

  • Awarded to students who participate in campus activities, including
    Athletics, Bowling, Cheerleading, Debate, Honors, KWCR Radio, Rodeo, Performing Arts, Signpost, Visual Arts, Science Programs, Hockey, Soccer and Women’s Fastpitch Softball

Emerging Leadership Scholarship:

  • Offered by the Department of Student Involvement & Leadership, this scholarship seeks to promote active involvement on campus. For additional information and to access the application click here.

Financial Need-Based Scholarships:

  • Awarded to students with financial need
  • Must submit results from the FAFSA (Free Application of Federal Student Aid) to the Scholarship Office by March 1 to be considered for need-based scholarships
  • Requirements vary per scholarship

Donor-Sponsored Special-Condition Scholarships:

  • Awarded to students fitting very specific criteria
  • In some instances, verification must be provided to the Scholarship Office.  Students will be contacted by Wildcat Email requesting this additional information and verification.  (Set up your Wildcat Email account here). 

Sterling Scholar Scholarships:
Offers are made to winners and runners-up in the five Utah regional competitions. 

  • Awarded to new freshman for first year of study at WSU
  • One-year (2 semester) waiver of partial in-state tuition 
  • Must maintain full-time status and a 3.5 cumulative GPA

Applied Technology Education Scholarships:
Offers are made to winners selected by the State Office of Education.

  • Awarded to new freshman for first year of study at WSU
  • One-year (2 semester) waiver of partial in-state tuition 
  • Must maintain full-time status and a 3.0 cumulative GPA

National Merit:
National finalists or semifinalists will qualify based on academic credentials.  Winners must notify WSU in writing regarding final National Merit status and interest in attending WSU.  Scholarship levels vary, depending on availability.
