Student Success Center - Assessment and Placement Policy

Compliance Holds

Why do I have a hold?

According to WSU’s Assessment and Placement Policy, students must begin their required developmental course work by their second semester* and make progress (defined as earning a minimum grade of “C” or better) each subsequent semester* until they have completed those courses required of their program of study. Students who do not comply with the policy receive a registration hold. If you have a hold, follow the steps below to have your hold expired.

*Summer semester registration is not required.

What do I need to do to have this hold expired?

Step 1. Make sure you have current placement in math and English. If you do not have current placement, you must take WSU’s Accuplacer before completing the next step.

  • ACT/SAT scores expire after two years.
  • Accuplacer tests taken prior to February 1, 2013 expire after one year. Accuplacer tests taken on or after February 1, 2013 expire after two years.
  • Math courses expire as a pre-requisite after two years.
  • If you are unsure if you have current placement, contact the Student Success Center at 801-626-6752 and we will be happy to assist you.

Step 2. Complete the Assessment and Placement Policy Information Module. (We recommend using the following internet browsers: Internet Explorer 9 or Google Chrome.)

The Assessment and Placement Policy Information Module takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. You will need speakers or headphones to hear the information presented in the module. Hearing and/or sight impaired students can contact the Student Success Center to arrange for an accommodation.

When will my hold be expired?

Once you have completed the above task, we will expire your registration hold by the end of the following business day. Check your eWeber portal and Wildcat e-mail account for updates. We will send you a detailed e-mail if there are any issues.

What if I'm currently enrolled in an equivalent math and/or English course at another institution?

Please send proof of enrollment to WSU's Student Success Center by fax, by mail or in person (see contact information below). This can be a current course schedule, and official letter of attendance, or any other document showing current enrollment dates.

You can check WSU's Transfer Guide to see if your transfer course has been articulated as an equivalent course.

Note: If you are planning on but haven't yet registered for an equivalent course, you must complete the Assessment and Placement Information Module (see above) and provide the Student Success Center with proof of enrollment when you do enroll. Your hold will not be expired until we receive proof of enrollment.
