HISPANIC STUDENT SENATOR FOR 2008-2009 SCHOOL YEAR:
Hispanic Area Council -- The Hispanic Area Council (HAC) is a student-run organization for all the Hispanic/Latino students at WSU. Their goals include cultural pride, community involvement and promotion of higher education.
HAC reinforces positive expectations that include: Educational Excellence Academic Attainment/Preparation Mentoring Engagement Accountability Retention/Graduation
The Hispanic WSUSA Student Body Senator, who is elected by his/her peers, serves as the president of the HAC organization. HAC is responsible for planning the events of the Hispanic Emphasis Week events during the final week of February.
Hispanic Area Council Executive meetings are held every Wednesday at 1 pm (for OFFICERS only). HAC Executives (Senator and Chair) meet weekly. Hispanic Area council meetings are held every other Friday at 1:00 p.m. in the SC152 (unless otherwise noted).

Hot Rockin' 4th Scholarship Fundraiser: GOAL was met- $1,200 was raised. SPECIAL THANKS to Senator Veronica Ramirez for spearheading, volunteering, preparation and cooking of food on both days July 3rd and 4th!!!

AFRICAN AMERICAN AREA COUNCIL STUDENT SENATOR FOR 2008-2009 SCHOOL YEAR: DAVID OTIENO
African American Area Council (AAAC) -- The AAAC is an executive committee of the African American Student Senator and is responsible for assisting the Senator with her duties, but not limited to the following:
Plan and implement programs to improve the quality of the University and educational experience of all African American students at WSU
Plan and implement programs to deliver pertinent information about African American students
Provide a cultural resource for the University and the community
Provide a mechanism to receive and facilitate the solution of student issues through legislation presented to the WSUSA Student Senate
Work with WSU School Services and other recruiting entities on campus in the recruitment of African American students
The senator also plans events for the African American Emphasis Week in February during Black History Month
AAAC meetings are scheduled to be every Friday at 12:00 p.m. in SC150 unless otherwise noted
Black Scholars United (BSU) -- BSU is a student organization that was founded in 1968 by a group of concerned students. The purpose of this organization is to provide a variety of social, educational, and cultural events for WSU that foster a sense of community and promote the value of cultural enrichment. Most importantly, scholastic achievement is a major goal.
BSU is a registered member of Clubs and Organizations of WSUSA. Meetings are usually held on a weekly basis and is open to all students interested in issues that concern African American students.
Kalani Martin, a Navajo is a Senior majoring in Automotive Service Technology. He has an Associates Degree in Automotive Services Technology.
THE AMERICAN INDIAN AREA COUNCIL STUDENT SENATOR FOR 2008-2009 SCHOOL: KALANI MARTIN
American Indian Council (AIC) -- This is the umbrella organization for all of the over 120 Native American Indian students from over 25 different tribes that attend Weber State University. Weekly meetings are held each week on Thursday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. in room SC233. The students are represented in the WSUSA Student Senate by a senator elected by the students to represent them and have an equal voice in the affairs and activities planned for the WSUSA student body. Each year these students plan and host Native American Emphasis Week and the annual POW WOW, this year to be held on Saturday, April 12, 2008 in the newly refurbished Ballroom of the Shepherd Union building. The goal of AIC is to promote a greater understanding and appreciation of Native American Indian cultures and values. Safeguarding our heritage and preparing for the future is what this club is all about.
American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) -- This is the WSU chapter of the National AISES organization, which is the largest professional Native American Indian organization of college students in the United States. It is run by and for Native American Indian students pursuing their higher education. These are all students that are high caliber students determined to complete their degrees in engineering and/or the sciences. This is an active chapter and has promoted educational excellence for the last several years. AISES also is a scholarship source for deserving and meritorious students in the engineering and science fields. Each year the chapter raises funds to send it's leaders to the national conference wherever it is held in the United States.

Pacific Islander Club (PIC) -- PIC is an organization for those students at WSU who are from any of the Polynesian island groups including, Hawaii, Samoa, Tonga, New Zealand, Fiji, etc.. The goal of the PIC is to share the rich culture of the Polynesian Islands with others. The club provides opportunities for Polynesian students as well as those just interested in the Polynesian cultures and want to learn more from the students attending WSU. The PIC provides a variety of social, educational and cultural events for WSU to cultivate a sense of community and promote the value of cultural enrichment.
