As the capstone to the Information Systems Technologies degree program, IST 4730 gives IST students the opportunity to put into practical use the skills and knowledge they have gained throughout the course of their education at Weber State University. Working with local businesses and organizations, and under the direction of a faculty member, IST Seniors apply their knowledge and skills of business, communications, marketing, and management, as well as networking, database design and management, web development, information security, and system design.
As part of the Senior Practicum experience, student teams work with these local businesses and organizations to complete technology based projects. These student teams may develop business software solutions, design and deploy wireless and Ethernet networks, conduct information security audits, design and develop websites and applications, and prepare business plans for IT-based business ventures.
The Senior Practicum course has been a great success on both ends of the spectrum. IST Seniors receive added experience that prepares them to enter a career field, and many local small businesses and non-profit organizations benefit from our services.
