Professional Profile:

Lewis R. Gale joined Weber State University in July, 2005. Before becoming Dean of the John B. Goddard School of Business & Economics, Dr. Gale was Dean of the B.I. Moody III College of Business Administration at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (UL-Lafayette) from June 2003 to July 2005. He earned a Ph.D. in Economics in 1994 from Arizona State University (ASU) in Tempe, Arizona, with a specialization in international economics. He also holds a Master of Science in Economics from ASU and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the California State University, Fresno. He joined UL-Lafayette in 1994 as a faculty member in economics and served two years as Chair of the UL-Lafayette’s Graduate Council (2001-2003) and one year as MBA Director and Associate Dean of the B.I. Moody III College of Business Administration (2002-2003).

Dr. Gale's primary area of research is international economics in which he has published several refereed articles on such topics as international trade and the environment, the North American Free Trade Agreement, factor endowments, and import competition effects on domestic industries. He has also conducted research in applied microeconomic topics ranging from the responsiveness of elderly migration to state policy changes to an economic analysis of hate crimes. Recently, his research agenda has centered on regional economic development. His research has been published in refereed journals such as International Review of Economics and Finance, Eastern Economic Journal, Public Finance Review, Economic Systems Research, Financial Practice and Education, and Journal for Global Business Education. Dr. Gale has been actively involved in economic development topics and projects in the areas he has lived. He is and has been a member of several boards, organizations, and groups, including Lift Ogden and the Lafayette Trade Development Group. He was involved in Lafayette Economic Development Authority (LEDA) recruitment and retention projects including the Cajundome Convention Center, Cingular Wireless, Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Acadian Ambulance, Sun Microsystems, and the Lafayette Immersion Technology Enterprise.
