Radiologic Technology Overview

Radiologic Technologists (radiographer, X-ray technician) use their knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, pathology, imaging procedures and equipment utilization to create permanent medical images or administer therapeutic treatments. Technologists must also use patient care and assessment skills to provide quality care to patients.

After completion of the radiography program, you will sit for the national certification examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). See the Accreditation, Licensure & Certification page for more information.

E D U C A T I O N

This program will teach you about patient care and assessment; psycho-social aspects of patient care; radiation biology, safety and protection; and radiation physics and instrumentation.

Also, you will learn anatomy and radiographic positioning procedures; medical terminology and pathology; and the principles and techniques of diagnostic imaging.

WSU’s highly motivated radiologic sciences faculty has earned national recognition in the field of radiologic technology.

C A R E E R

Employment opportunities are available in hospitals, clinics, physician offices and industrial X- ray, such as the aerospace industry.

Employment of Registered Radiologic Technologists is expected to grow by as much as 42 percent in Utah and 25 percent nationally by 2008.

Graduates have been hired with a salary ranging from $30,000 to $35,000 in Utah. This may vary depending on the region, workplace and skill level.
