This program is offered with two emphases: medical and cardiac. The program and support courses are four semesters in length for the medical emphasis and four semesters in length for the cardiac emphasis, which requires the student to attend summer semester. A competency-based evaluation system is utilized throughout the program. You must achieve a predetermined level of competency in the academic and clinical courses in order to receive grades for the course. The clinical education courses require a minimum of 24 clock hours per calendar week in a WSU-affiliated health care facility. To begin this program, you must be an ARRT registered technologist or acceptable equivalent as determined by the Department of Radiologic Sciences. After you apply and are accepted, you must maintain a GPA of at least 2.0 in all of your professional courses in order to receive certification. Prerequisites Biomedical Core Courses Required Prerequisite Requirements RADTEC 3243 Patient Care & Assessment II (3) Required Courses You must select a diagnostic medical sonography elective from the following: Emphasis Requirements You must complete the courses for one of the following two emphasis areas: medical emphasis (22 credit hours) or cardiac emphasis (18 credit hours).
