Mary developed an early love of nature by scrambling around Ogden’s foothills trying to keep up with her brothers.
After graduating from Ogden High School, she spent the next several years working in SLC, Alaska and Seattle before returning to Ogden and Weber State. While attending Weber State, Mary spent summers working for the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. In 1985 she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Botany, cum laude and was named Botany Student of the year.
For the next five years while raising her young daughter, Mary worked summers at the Ogden Nature Center leading nature programs for kids. In 1990, she became the Nature Center’s Executive Director. The highlight of her six-year tenure was helping the organization raise the needed funds to construct a new Education and Visitors Center.
