October 2008: WSU ranked among America's Best
Every August, along with opening of school meetings and students’ fine-tuning their class schedules, another autumn ritual occurs when U.S. News & World Report releases their ranking of America’s best colleges. For more than 25 years, this publication has evaluated and ranked colleges and universities nationwide, to provide a resource for prospective students, parents and high school guidance counselors. It’s an informal report card, of sorts, for institutions of higher education.
I’m pleased to announce that Weber State University made the grade in the 2009 edition of America’s Best Colleges. Out of 1,400 schools nationwide, WSU was one of only four Utah universities to be ranked in this year’s publication. U.S. News & World Report ranked WSU as the 16th best public master’s university in the West, lauding our small class size, student retention rates and graduation rates.
This announcement came just weeks after the Princeton Review listed WSU as one of the best universities in the west. While we’ve received both honors in the past, it’s always gratifying to see external recognition of what we do best – providing an outstanding education for our students.
Enclosed with this letter you’ll find our annual report for the 2007-08 academic year. It provides a glimpse of the many ways Weber State University faculty, staff and students are building for the future.
From innovative classroom technologies to applied research, from campus construction to supporting the next generation of local entrepreneurs and companies, WSU faculty and students are engaged in many activities that enhance our community, state and the Intermountain region.
Read about students who are making their mark on the national stage. See new facilities that are revitalizing the core of our Ogden campus. Learn about new teaching tools in health professions, computer science and WSU Online. Given the quality educational experiences we provide, the ongoing dedication of our faculty and staff, and the achievements of both our professors and students, I’m certain WSU will continue to attract attention and recognition from national publications for years to come.
Sincerely,
F. Ann Millner
