No gondola!

Commuter rail yes!

Let community colleges fill that role.

Brightest students are put off by those who belong in a community college

Population will drive much change.  WSU’s Ogden campus cannot accommodate a huge population increase.  At the same time, the increased pursuit of research dollars and masters degrees will require faculty to fulfill a wide variety of roles, from community college to a master’s institution.  These point to an increase specialization and concurrent fragmentation (desirable or not).  For example, WSU Davis could specialize as a community college/feeder for Ogden’s bachelors and masters programs.  They would not compete, but would cooperate in the efficient channeling of student according to the goals and preparation.

I look forward to growing a regional focus for WSU.  We need to share our outstanding education more widely.

Develop Davis campus – Develop interaction with community in research.

It might be a good idea to purchase the old McKay-Dee property and create a sky walk.

Have more interaction between faculty and students in online courses.  Photos of each other?

Keep the Ph.D.’s teaching – don’t go to the T.A. scene!

Questioning possible contradictory messages:

Research vs. community institutions

Satellite – online vs. community

Regional university vs. community based

Makes me realize my votes/wishes are not consistent.  Have cake and eat it too?  Choices need to be made.

Expand Davis Campus.

Enhance online classes to include video lectures, interactive Q&A and less like independent study.

More options for different learning type like audio textbook, lectures that can be downloaded and listened to/watch multiple times, more documentary style lectures.

Do a better job at mentoring and getting students inspired.

WSU should be integrated with community.  Focus more on recruiting minority students.  New masters programs in areas such as psychology.  A Bachelor of Arts degree in Photography.  Greater flexibility for staff who want to pursue a masters degree.

The premier place in Utah and surrounding states to get a quality undergrad education.  Select quality masters programs but primarily undergrad focus.

Market the positives (low class size, etc.) of WSU extensively.

Support the gondola and market that to get the best students.

Masters of Health Promotion.

Admissions criteria making WSU more selective.

Larger number of masters degree programs.

We retain all of our land.

Aggressively recruiting and retaining minority students.

Special programs encouraging women to graduate instead of leaving after attaining the Mrs. Degree.

Greater prestige and respect from HE and local community.

Service learning requirement for graduation.

Senior comprehensive exams.

The “option finder” exercise was a waste of resources due to the cowardly choice of topics and the wimpy wording of questions.  All of the “questions” asked were formulated in a “leading” fashion and the great opportunity to get meaningful feedback on real matters was aborted.

We should have addressed some “burning issues,” e.g. “Lift Ogden” vs. “Smart Growth Ogden,” University land being sold for development purposes.  The very nature of our place in the state system (unique roles, program strengths, etc.)

Need more faculty development so the faculty can meet the new demands of the university expectations.

Need to improve teaching and learning through all the futuristic moves.

Find ways to meet/attract all students.

Attract new majors – undergraduate

Needs for more on-campus students

Continue working on diversity – 40% of students in the Ogden City Schools are now Hispanic – They need to be made welcome – industry is looking for diversity!

Continue the transition of a strong regional university

More emphasis needs to be created for on campus intellectual activity

We will be primarily a local service university

I hope Weber goes more and more technologically innovative.  It would be great to see engineering type of opportunities – maybe aerospace or transportation.  Day dreaming here, I guess. But begin designing things that make the world better – like high tech trains and more satellite/space technology, or a prototype of a more fuel efficient car or source of power to hear our homes  (like I said , day dreaming here).

And in short term, I think all of us should identify – First – with being a Wildcat and then with our respective areas.  It would be great if we all strived toward tangible, achieving and unifying goals (at least one).

After doing the survey, I think it not possible to be all things at one time, but we can all be Wildcats.  We need to find our niche and pursue it.

I see students commuting by mass transit.  Fewer parking lots.  More crowded corridors.  Hopefully less hassle about getting information.  We won’t have to send students to different locations to talk to someone who sends them somewhere else.  Students will be expected to plan their education – more individualized opportunities – fewer certificate and applied programs.  More grad level and research opportunities.  Feeder institutions rather than satellite areas.  Weber will be the “mother ship” of Northern Utah.

I would like to see Weber continue to advance technologically and offer many more courses online.  Diversity needs to be addressed because the enrollment of students at Weber does not match the diversity of the community.

Hopefully, by the year 2026 there will be more progress towards bridging the gap with Ogden’s Hispanic population.  I would like to see more ethnic diversity on campus, both within the student body and the faculty and staff.

Of course, we plan on light rail service to the campus, e.g., fewer cars, space used for other uses than parking.  Easy accessibility is a must.

I would like to see more variety in the graduate programs offered.  More opportunities for life long learners are needed.

At this point, technology is a must, but so is the human element.  It is indeed our most valuable resource.

Show them value vs. experience value.

Whatever WSU does it should strive to be the best at it.  It should always distinguish itself from the other Universities in the state and region.

A weakness here at WSU is a lack of customer service excellence toward the students.  To achieve maximum growth for the future we must concentrate our efforts on outstanding customer service.

Still recognizing the value of technical education

Valuing the various educational paths of the faculty at Weber State.

Better structuring of the online face to face, etc. educational experience.

Better advisement tools for students.

Better representative of the local community in the faculty and administration.

Realize that most of our graduates stay in Utah or the Rocky Mountain area; therefore, more career and job development needs to be done.

Much better customer service provided to the students needs to be provided.

Weber State is a great university, but some building and technology upgrades seem to be lacking attention.

The Davis campus will be a much larger part of the overall university, with perhaps four academic building and 8,000 students.  There will be about 30 degree programs, primarily at the baccalaureate and masters levels.

WSU online will also be a large presence, but operating in a much more competitive environment, as geographic barriers fall and stronger competitors enter our market space.

WSU will continue to serve the Weber and Davis county areas, drawing about 70% of its students from these two counties.  Weber will have a much more diverse student body as it gains a stronger presence in the expanding Hispanic community.

WSU will continue to be a welcoming place for working students, especially those pursuing their education as part time students.  Hybrid courses with online and face to face instruction will be much more prevalent.

It makes sense to move with the demographic flow, not against it.

It also makes sense to predict where the money and decision making power will reside and match our direction to the general direction.

I think our international efforts must increase.  We need to do a better job with what we have.

The good ratio of teacher to student will be maintained, as will the connection between students and their professors.

Parking will not be such a frustration.  Weber State has maintained its role as a “community school” that bridges our students on to university work.

We are a leader in valuable “community based research.”  We have demonstrated how important “practical research” is (as opposed to “pure,” “scholarly” research).

WSU has a strong role to play regionally but also has excellent educational programs/faculty as a nationwide university.

Big parking terrace, have the best technology resources

Some kind of balance between community service relations and research

Work more closely with high schools to see that students are better prepared for college.

Don’t try to change as much, but embrace what we are and build on that.

Look at majors we are missing (engineering, forestry, etc.)

Need to continue to bring education to the people by developments in online education and satellite centers.  Continue to utilize technology in classroom instruction.  Conduct research but tailored to our capabilities and purpose.  Not only develop more advanced degree programs but additional undergrad/professional programs.

Student Services more student friendly, should they really have to come on campus to be served (online)

More financial assistance

More budget dollars for recruiting

Increased funding for the sciences

Better access to the Weber Campus (bus, rail, etc.)

Less adjunct teachers

We must be mindful of the decline in math and science education nationally and respond.  This will require a considerable expenditure of resources.  If we concentrate only on short-term market driven programs, we will be good at cheap programs only.

Also, limit number of adjunct faculty.

I think that WSU should become a more unfrustrating university where new students aren’t given the run around because of departments not being trained thoroughly enough to tell them what they need instead of sending them to another department because they don’t know the “answer” to their questions!  Put a program in place where all departments are trained by each other so they can stop the run around.

No gondola!  Please don’t sell our valuable land – who knows now what can be done with the land?

Recruit more to the eastern, southern, northeast, Midwest areas – we have one of the best deals – low tuition cost, beautiful campus, small classes so better teacher attention, etc...

Increase staff benefits.

Do not sell any property on the Ogden Campus.  Allow for expansion. Plan for infrastructure to support the building and programs. Still a commuter campus with a need for accommodation of mass transit terminals…but not a stupid gondola
