Daniel Jonas

Assistant Director of Bands


Dr. Daniel Jonas is currently Assistant Director of Bands at Weber State University, where he directs the
Jazz Ensemble and the Wildcat Pep Band, in addition to teaching Music Theory, Jazz History, Rock
History, and Trumpet. Dr. Jonas holds a D.M.A. in Jazz Studies from the University of Colorado at
Boulder, a M.M. in Jazz Studies from DePaul University, and a B.M. in Music Performance from the
University of New Mexico. A lead trumpet player and soloist, Dr. Jonas has shared the stage with many
notable jazz artists including Maria Schneider, Jim McNeely, Phil Woods, Jon Faddis, and others. He has
performed at the Telluride Jazz Festival, the Charlie Christian Jazz Festival, the Jazz Educator’s Network
conference, the Guatemala Jazz Festival, and also toured Italy as a member of the DePaul Jazz Ensemble.
His playing and compositions can be heard on several albums on the Jazzed Media label, in addition to
his most recent album with the Andrew Stonerock Quintet.
