Applications for the Summer 2008 Faculty Stipend Program are available by clicking on the link located on the right side of this page. Application Deadline: April 14, 2008. 2008 Summer Faculty Stipend Pilot Program: The Office of Undergraduate
Research is pleased to announce a new stipend program for faculty mentoring
students in research during the summer of 2008.
This pilot program is intended to encourage and reward faculty who
devote significant time during the summer months to mentor undergraduate
research projects. Undergraduate research can be
a significant educational experience for our students. It enhances the overall college experience through
active engagement in the process of discovering and sharing new knowledge. In addition, it also encourages a close collaboration
between both students and faculty. The
summer is often a valuable time where students and faculty can work together on
significant projects without many of the distractions that occur during the
fall and spring semesters. All faculty working with student(s) over the
summer for the equivalent of eight (8) weeks interaction with the student(s),
are eligible to apply. Faculty members
mentoring students as part of a course research project (where the faculty
member is already receiving compensation for the course) are not eligible for
this stipend. Faculty members do not
need to be working with a student who is funded through the Office of
Undergraduate Research in order to be considered for funding. Because each discipline, as well as individual student
projects, vary in the amount of time required by the faculty mentor, stipends
will be awarded based on the level of interaction with the student(s). The stipend amounts are as follows: 5-10 hours/week: $1000 10-20 hours/week: $1500 20+ hours/week (or
multiple projects): $2000 |
