Associate Professor

Dr. Hart has been a faculty member at WSU since 1999 and enjoys working with students at all levels of nursing. She has taken a ladder approach to her career, graduating first as an LPN in 1983. As an RN, she worked in various areas including ICU, burns, L&D, pediatric ER, public health and management. She completed a Master’s degree from the University of Utah and is licensed as a women's health care nurse practitioner.

Her terminal degree is a doctorate in education from Capella University. Dr. Hart has interests in many areas of the educational process including: brain based learning, promoting student engagement, and alternative forms of student assessment.

Currently, Dr. Hart has a part-time practice as a nurse practitioner, focusing on women's/infant's/children’s mental health issues, as well as geriatric needs. For the next several years, she will be involved in an NIH funded grant opportunity that will bring education on mental health issues to the secondary schools in southeast Alaska.

Dr. Hart lives in Sitka, Alaska with her husband of 27 years, two teenagers, and a labradoodle. She still visits Utah on a regular basis to see her other grown children and her beautiful granddaughter.
