Career Ladder Planning
The Department of Nursing contains three nursing program levels: practical nurse (PN), associate’s degree (AAS/AS) and bachelor’s degree (BSN). Each level provides a foundation for the next; as you progress through the levels, you build upon the knowledge and skills gained earlier.
You may exit the program at the end of both the PN and AAS/AS levels of education. These programs provide certification and/or licensure for practice.
If you are applying to become a PN-to-RN or AAS/AS student and would prefer uninterrupted progression to the RN-to-BSN program level, a “2+2 BSN” option is available. You must declare you want this option when you apply.
Licensed PN and RN graduates from non-WSU programs or WSU graduates who have been out of school may complete any necessary admission requirements to enter/re-enter the nursing program and advance in the career ladder levels.
A College of Health Professions advisor is available to guide and assist with career planning.
