Students are invited to join the American Society for Microbiology. This is the primary professional organization for microbiologists. Student members receive a monthly subscription to Microbe a general interest microbiology magazine, access to ASM's career resources, including employment listings and discounts on registration to the annual meeting. 

The national meeting is held in late May or early June. A regional meeting is held in March or April.  Students are invited to submit abstracts to present at one or both meetings. Students can also apply for travel stipends from ASM.
