What are the employment opportunities?

A degree in political science from WSU provides the foundation for a wide variety of careers. Graduates are prepared for careers in civil service, foreign service, higher education, journalism, law, law enforcement, the military, non-profit organizations, political campaign management and state and local government. Teachers, urban planners and legislative analysts all use political science in their careers.

    A degree in political science from WSU furnishes an excellent background for graduate study, not only in political science, but also in law, administration, business and international relations. As a political science major, you will have opportunities to study everything from Aristotle to complex equations, from international affairs to constitutional law, so your training will be useful no matter what career you choose.

    What will I learn in the program?

    In the broadest sense, you will study politics particularly as it relates to governments and people. You will learn about how governments are structured, how governments make decisions, the policies that result from political decisions and the consequences of these policies.

    You will also learn about people: their values and positions on issues, their preferences among candidates, their support for public officials and their appraisals of their government.

    You will study from all subfields of political science: American government, law, administration, comparative politics, international relations, methodology and political theory.
