What will I learn in the program?
The Health Promotion & Human Performance Department (HPHP) offers many specialties and courses. A complete list of majors and classes can be found in the university catalog. Below is a list of HPHP majors with a few of the classes that differentiate them.
Athletic training majors learn nutrition, emergency response, kinesiology, sports medicine and athletic training management.
Health promotion majors learn consumer health, patient education, community health care delivery systems and health care administration.
Lifestyle management majors learn health/fitness evaluation and exercise prescription, first aid, leadership styles, nutrition and recreation and leisure.
Physical education or physical education teaching majors study motor development, teaching and coaching sports, lifelong leisure activities and sports officiating.
Health promotion majors study school health programs, worksite and community health programs, stress management, the art of emotional wellness, women's health issues, and epidemiology and health care statistics.
Nutrition education minors learn food values, diet design and health, multicultural health and nutrition, foundations in diet therapy, and health and nutrition in the older adult.
Physical education teaching/coaching minors learn instructional strategies, sports injuries, psychological aspects of human performance and neuromuscular conditioning.
If you are working on a BIS or bachelor of integrated studies degree, you can use HPHP classes as one of your three required disciplines. Your BIS advisor can help you select your courses.
