What are the employment opportunities?

Current demand for computer scientists is greater than the number of qualified graduates can fill. Our department maintains a strong relationship with community employers, and our graduates have the reputation that "they hit the ground running." Computer science careers, including software engineering, are projected to be among the fastest growing occupations over the 2002-2012 period.

WSU graduates qualify for positions involving computer operations, Windows application development, programming, systems integration and network management, systems analysis and real time and database applications.

Graduates are working for companies such as Boeing, L3 Communications, Novell and many small enterprises in and around Utah. We've also had graduates go on to work for Harris Computers in Florida, Intel in Arizona, and companies in Colorado, Texas, New Mexico, Idaho, Hawaii and all around the globe.

Starting Salaries
Starting salaries vary depending on the region, workplace and skill level. Associate-level graduates can expect starting salaries around $25,000 per year, while bachelor's degree graduates' salaries typically begin above $45,000 per year.

Nationwide, the median annual earnings of computer applications software engineers who worked full-time in 2002 was $70,900.  For more information, go to
