Graduates automatically qualify as conditionally certified family life educators.
The Department of Child and Family Studies is approved by the National Council of Family Relations (NCFR).
The Melba S. Lehner Children's School, located on campus, is
accredited by the National Association of Education for Young Children
(NAEYC).
You will get hands-on experience in a practicum at a childhood
education facility, including the nationally accredited Melba S. Lehner
Children's School.

What are the employment opportunities?
You
may work in child care, preschool or kindergarten-third grade. You
could be an educational coordinator, child life specialist, family
caseworker, family support worker, work/life specialist or human
resource manager. You might work for juvenile court, social services,
Head Start or a childcare center.
Starting Salaries Pay
depends on the education you attain and the type of program you work
for. The average starting salary for students with a bachelor's degree
is $27,625.
If you go on for graduate work, you can increase
your earning potential from the high $30,000s to the low

child and family studies at WSU, you will learn to become an early
childhood and family life educator. You will learn to create
environments that enhance the lives and healthy development of
children, adults and their families.
You'll get a thorough
understanding of family relations, child growth and development,
interpersonal relations, resource management and family finance.
