What degrees/certificates are available?

The program offers a bachelor of science degree in business education with an emphasis in teaching in the secondary schools. Because the associate of applied science degree in business systems technology is required on the way to this degree, graduates are also prepared to enter the business workforce in the computer and office environments of a company.

What are the employment opportunities?

Graduates with an emphasis in business education composite teaching are certified to teach in the secondary schools. The business core includes marketing, management, business law and economics. Skills classes include computer applications (multimedia, web page design, desktop publishing and databases). If you choose to obtain the marketing education minor as well, classes will include sales, advertising and other related business/marketing courses.

Starting Salaries
Starting salaries vary depending on the region, workplace and skill level. Starting salaries range from $25,000-$30,000 per year. For more information, go to Career Services.

   

What will I learn in the program?

You may choose from a variety of multimedia and electronic presentations software including desktop publishing, graphics, drawing, video and audio production, animation and authoring. You will become a skilled user of these programs on a computer network. During the last two years, you will complete education and methods courses that prepare you to teach the current curriculum and to manage a classroom comprised of individuals with a variety of abilities and needs.

Is there an application deadline?

No application deadline exists. However, we encourage you to complete the AAS degree in business systems technologies or equivalent. In order to obtain the BS degree in business education, you must apply to the Jerry and Vicki Moyes College of Education and be admitted into the secondary education courses leading to licensure. Contact the telecommunications and business education department for specific information or to schedule an advisement time.
