What will I learn in the program?
Certified Athletic Trainers are medical experts in preventing, recognizing, managing, and rehabilitating injuries that result from physical activity. You will take core athletic training classes covering topics such as emergency care, orthopedic assessment, therapeutic modalities, therapeutic rehabilitation, general medical conditions, and management. You will be able to choose between two tracks:
Clinical Track
The Clinical Track will prepare you for a career as a Certified Athletic Trainer in allied health care. You will develop your skills in the prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries.
Scientific Track
The Scientific Track will prepare you to enter graduate school in physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician assistant, or medical school. If you graduate from this track, you will NOT BE ELIGIBLE TO SIT FOR THE NATIONAL ATHLETIC TRAINERS' BOARD OF CERTIFICATION EXAM. You will take all of the support courses, professional knowledge courses and many of the Athletic Training major courses (see Course Requirements); however, you will NOT take the Clinical Experience Track courses. Instead, you will complete the prerequisites required to enter your chosen graduate program.
