The IT Division began the 2006-08 IT planning cycle coming off of a year of significant accomplishment and signficant challenges. 2005 included the end of the WSU Information Technology Infrastructure Project (ITIP), marked by the very successful final stages of Lynx/Banner implementation.
It also included an extremely serious incident at the beginning of the Fall 2005 Semester when a power-related hard crash of all major systems was followed by three-and-one-half days of downtime of WSU Online. With approximately 9,000 student enrollments and more than 350 faculty involved, this was a very stressful and damaging event.
The seriousness of this crisis helped focus attention on several much needed upgrades and changes. In its Fall 2005 meeting, the University Planning Council identified "24x7 IT Support" as its top initiative for the following year. The importance of these issues is further reflected in the 2005-06 IT Division Annual Report. As a result, WSU Information Technology emerged stronger and more reliable than before.
