2002-04 IT Plan

In 2002, the Information Technology Division at Weber State University consists of the CIO Office (the CIO and one Office Specialist) and six departments:  Administrative Computing, Communication Arts & Technologies (CATS), Computing Support, The IT Web Group, Systems & Network Management and Telecommunications.  The Division has an annual operating budget of approximately $3.8 million and employs one executive, 43 professional, and three classified full-time staff.

The IT Division is responsible for university-wide information technology support, including such things as administrative systems, the telephone network, the data network, Internet access, online services, multimedia support, help desk and general computing support.  In general, schools, colleges, divisions and programs are responsible for acquiring information technology resources for their individual units, with assistance from the IT Division as needed.  Therefore, the IT Plan focuses primarily on university-wide IT services and issues.

Employee evaluations are conducted annually and performance is measured against division goals and individual department objectives.  However, this is done within the context of a two-year "rolling" planning cycle. Major IT Division objectives tend to be multi-year, requiring a broader view of progress than is typically afforded by an annual planning cycle.

The 2002-2004 IT planning cycle is occurring within the context of Weber State University's preparations for re-accreditation.  The university's self-study report must be completed by Spring 2004, in anticipation of the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges accreditation team visit in October 2004.

The IT Division has been engaged in planning and assessment activities for a number of years.  Therefore, accommodation of accreditation self-study activities within the regular planning cycle will be relatively routine.  The links at left cover both routine and accreditation-related assessment and planning activities for the next two years.
