Beginning with publication of the first formal WSU IT Plan in 1995-96, various "implementation actions" have been selected, revised and refined in ongoing discussions (individual and joint) of the IT Division Staff, and ARCC and AITC committees. Many of these have also been successfully completed.
Originally, the WSU planning taxonomy did not include a category for long-term goals, resulting in a mixture of immediate (specific) and long-term (broad) actions on the list. To correct this deficiency, some earlier implementation actions have been moved to the long-term goal category, resulting in the following list of more specific implementation actions:
A. To enhance the quality of the learning experience:
Continue development of the communication technology lab in support of faculty technology training and multimedia production services (CATS).
Continue development of multimedia classrooms and implementation of Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) capabilities on both the Ogden and Layton campuses (CATS).
Complete implementation of the new "Horizon" library system (Library).
Intensify faculty and staff development efforts in support of the use of IT (CATS).
Continue renovation of campus facilities to support increased use of IT in instruction (CATS).
Dramatically increase delivery of instruction and services on the Information Superhighway (Academic Computing, ARCC, CATS).
B. Improved management of enrollment on and off campus:
Complete implementation of the comprehensive student tracking system (Academic Affairs, Administrative Computing).
Complete acquisition and implement the new admissions prospect tracking software (Admissions, Administrative Computing).
C. Build [WSU] Image and Identity. Continue implementation of the "Wildcard" one-card ID system and enhance its functionality (Administrative Computing, Wildcard Management Team).
D. Increase and Improve Use of Resources.
Revise and update the IT Plan and continue to refine the planning process (CIO).
Develop and begin to implement an Institutional Information Plan (CIO, IIR Team, IDA Team).
Complete implementation of the new integrated Alumni/Development [advancement] database system (Alumni/Development).
Identify ways to creatively use IT to ease WSU's conversion to the semester system (Academic Affairs, Administrative Computing).
Begin to develop and implement an Intranet strategy to enhance and expand access to administrative information (CIO, Data Administration, IIR Team, IDA Team).
