Policy for Non-WSU Affiliate Access to the WSU Wireless Network Approved by IT Council October 27, 2004
Weber State University provides access to the WSU public wireless network for non-WSU Individuals, who are sponsored by a WSU affiliate, on a case-by-case basis. For those provided access the following must occur:
1 - Device to be connected must be brought to the Technology Services' Service Desk.
2 - Help Desk staff will verify the devices network readiness by checking for the following: a. Does the device run a supported OS? WSU will not allow devices running less than Windows 2000, Mac OS 9.1 on the network. b. Is the OS fully patched and updated? c. Does the device run anti-virus software? Is the program current and is there evidence that the device is scanned regularly?
3 - A copy of the University’s Acceptable Use Policy will be provided to the user. It is expected that the user will comply by the policy. Any evidence to the contrary will result in disabling of network access.
Once the device has been determined to be ‘network-ready” a network user object will be created for the user that allows for authentication of the device to the network. The user object will include name, contact information, name of sponsoring WSU affiliate and an expiration date.
