Naming Convention

Weber State University
WildCat ID
(WCID)
Naming Convention

By January 1, 2005, WSU students, faculty, staff and administrators will have a single network ID (the WildCat ID or WCID). The WCID will be used for access to all network services, including WSU portals and eMail. For future users, this network ID will be based upon a concatenation of the user’s preferred first name and their last name, with digits added as needed [i.e., firstnamelastname(#) {e.g., waldowildcat}] .

This will apply to all future users regardless of role. Current users without WildCat Mail accounts will be "grand fathered" to use their GroupWise userID as their network ID or WCID. Current faculty, staff and administrators with WildCat Mail accounts may choose to use their WildCat Mail username instead of their GroupWise userID if they prefer.* Individuals requesting a different ID from that described above, will be strongly encouraged to use one of two other naming options, namely either firstinitiallastname(#) {e.g., wwildcat} or first initialmiddleinitiallastname(#) {e.g., wmwildcat}.

Current services affected by this naming convention are Banner Self-Service, Crystal Enterprise Reports, Luminis, WSU Online (Vista), WildCat Mail, GroupWise, desktop login, and the Novell Network login . Other services will be added in the future.

Approved by IT Council
April 28, 2004

*Please note that once the choice has been made, the first part of both eMail addresses will be the same; e.g., wwildcat@mail.weber.edu (WildCat Mail) and wwildcat@weber.edu (GroupWise).
