History Departmental Honors
In conjunction with the Honors program, the History Department offers a Departmental Honors curriculum. This program provides students with the opportunity to strengthen their learning and enhance their credentials.
REQUIREMENTS FOR DEPARTMENTAL HONORS IN HISTORY: · Be declared as a History major, earning a Bachelor’s of Arts · Earn a cumulative GPA of 3.5 and a departmental GPA of 3.7 · Take 2 additional upper division class offered in the university Honors Program · Take at least 6 credit hours of upper division History courses on an Honors basis. A written agreement should be reached with the appropriate professor regarding expectations when taking a history department course as Honors. · Publically present original historical research. This requirement may be fulfilled by: ü presenting a scholarly paper at a national conference, at local conferences such as Phi Alpha Theta, Utah Academy of Arts and Letters, Undergraduate Research Symposium, or ü submitting a manuscript to be considered for publication by a scholarly journal, or ü curating a museum or web-based exhibition with the support of a recognized institution of public history.
Students who have not completed their General Education requirements are encouraged to take Honors General Education classes.
Students must apply to be awarded departmental honors and be cleared by both the History Department and the Honors program.
HOW TO APPLY FOR DEPARTMENTAL HONORS IN HISTORY: 1. Complete the application for departmental Honors and submit it to the Honors Program. 2. Meet the requirements listed above 3. Visit with Marilyn Diamond, the Honors advisor, to be cleared for graduation with Departmental Honors (626-7336 mdiamond@weber.edu)
RECOGNITION FOR STUDENTS EARNING DEPARTMENTAL HONORS: · “Department of History Honors” designation on official transcript. · “Department of History Honors” printed on degree diploma · Personalized letter signed by the president of Weber State University and the Honors Director · Invitations to Honors educational and social events
